Terry, From what I have seen, this is a reliable mark on older birds. This can be slow to develop in young Tundra Swans, they can have quite pointed looking borders during at least the first year of life. Not sure at what point this feature fully develops; hard to see at times but pretty reliable I think on adults. Both Chad and I could easily see this feature when the bird looked at us, and it is almost a straight line of black across the forehead, no trace of a V. What I do not know: how reliable is this fieldmark. For interest - there are 2 prior records of Tundra Swan for Rutherford County, but none for some time. The woman who called me about the bird yesterday, told me last night that her husband saw it first on Tuesday, so it has been there for at least 3 days Cheers Terry Witt Murfreesboro Tn =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
