Rutherford County – Murfreesboro, Rockvale and Eagleville
On Saturday, there was a juvenile Bald Eagle at the intersection of Veterans
Pkwy and Hwy 99 in Murfreesboro. At the Old Kimbro Rd/Veterans Rd Flooded
Field, there was a small flock of Green-Winged Teal with the Gadwalls, Mallard
and a Northern Shoveler. That evening, we heard an American Woodcock calling
(peenting and twittering) on Swamp Rd in Eagleville. We also were able to
watch a Great Horned Owl in the same vicinity. It was too rainy to watch for
the Short-Eared Owl.
This afternoon, Bill found a Barn Owl on Swamp Rd in Eagleville. That was a
LIFER for me! The Merlin was on Little Rock Road. It was preening, fanning
its tail and stretching its legs. We watched it for quite some time as it was
rather quite funny. Lots of Northern Harriers and Sandhill Cranes on Swamp Rd
area as well. This morning, we had an immature Bald Eagle in our subdivision
in Rockvale. We think it was the same bird from yesterday since it was seen
only a few miles away.
Our Red-Breasted Nuthatches continue in the yard. Since they arrived, I have
not seen or heard our White-breasted Nuthatches. Would the Red-Breasted
displace them?
