3/2/2014 Rutherford Co., TN Traveling Took off before sunrise for a quick look around a few spots in Rutherford Co. this morning. Veterans Pkwy wet area Redhead ducks have been replaced with Ring-necked Ducks(60). Also present were Mallards(40), Gadwalls(24), a few Green-winged teal and American Wigeon. Also present were about 22 Wilson snipe, probably more but I was in a hurry and Killdeer. Lytle Creek was a bust except for a few Am. Kestrel. Todd Lake at Rutherford Blvd Northern Shovelers, Gadwal, Wood Duck, and Canada Geese. Best bird of the morning. Female Merlin devouring a small bird she had caught two blocks from my house. Almost past by her backed up and watched her eat the little bird like she had not eaten in a week. Great view at about 25 feet. Could not have cared less about me. That's my first Rutherford Co. Merlin. I was beginning to think I was not going to find one. Good birding everyone Stephen Zipperer Rutherford Co.
