Good icy, snowy morning from the Charlotte Park area of West Nashville,
Davidson County, just a few blocks east of the Cleece's Ferry landing on the
Cumberland River.
Along with all my regular yard feeders, my deck is full of grackles, 15 MALE
red wings, 2 cowbirds and 4 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, one of which came right up to
the glass door pane where I could peer right down on it at a distance of five
feet!   We had a small flock of them about two miles away for the Christmas
count last Saturday, so they've been around, and, now, some are HERE.   I'm
iced
in, so enjoying feeding the birds.   Even got some suet that Hills managed to
have in their grocery store yesterday.

Only this moment, I looked up from writing this post to find the menagerie of
birds have been joined by a male and a female purple finch. My mockingbird
perched on a chair just outside the door a few minutes ago, so I took more
peanut butter out, and the bird was right on the perch just a couple of inches
from my hand while I spread the PBS on the perch. Poor, hungry mockingbird is
"begging"overtime this morning. At least one tufted titmouse is gorging on PBS
this morning as well.

Let's all keep our birds well fed and watered through this icy/snowy time.
They deserve it for giving all of us so much joy. I'm going to throw more seed
on the deck, replenish everything else, then heat some leftover homemade
chili and warm up my own insides!

Cheers, prayers & great winter birding,

Dee Thompson
Nashville, TN
