Willie continued his unusual behavior with his first appearance at 6:23 a.m. this morning. It is raining and he chose the port under the spotlight cover that provides the best shelter for him, but instead of just a quick check of the sugar water, he sat and drank. He did the same on his second visit and on the third one he gulped down the food for almost a minute. He ended the day yesterday by coming to the feeder at 5:35 p.m., which is much later than usual. His erratic actions have us puzzled. What remains normal is how gorgeous he is even in the rain and semidarkness of the early morning. We were just talking yesterday about how blessed we are that God chose us to take care of this special creation of His this winter. Birding has been such a joy to us through the years and we've never tired of the beauty of even birds we see every day. But this little tiny feathered thing has found a special place in our hearts and lives. Willie is another of those mountaintop experiences of life that make the problems of the valleys we pass through seem insignificant. We all need more Willies.
