With all due respect, while it is true that a female Ruff is often referred to as a Reeve, the official AOU and ABA name for the species is Ruff, and accordingly it is perfectly acceptable, and probably even more correct, to refer to this bird as a female Ruff.

SHE was actively feeding most of the time and spent much of the time near the yellowlegs.


The preferred term for a female Ruff is a Reeve.
