Sept. 1, 2002 A 3 hour stint in the morning and 4-1/2 hours in the afternoon revealed no Ruff that I could find. A bird dropping in and not feeding usually means it is just taking a short rest. I'll bet it is lounging on the beach at Destin right now. Yesterday we had 15 species of shorebirds at the pits with the best being, Buff-breasted, Baird's and Short-billed Dowitchers. Today the same species were present but a few more birds and an immature Ruddy Turnstone was flipping everything in sight, so I ended with only 16 species today. A peep I saw Friday, that I'm still undecided on which side of the fence to put, showed up again today but only briefly as the birds flushed again and again for no apparent reason. I didn't get any photos today and have sent off a set taken Friday to get some opinions. It could be something just in aberrant plumage like a short billed Western but again I think it might be a Stint as it just does not look or act like anything I can remember or have read about. I'll try again tomorrow. Good Birding!!! Jeff R.
