2/5/08 Hwy 79 between Trezevant & McKenzie Carroll Co On the way home from work this morning I had a dark-morph Rough-leg flying at a steady pace to the southwest. I 1st saw the bird flying towards me, noting a dark-morph with a less-labored wingbeat than a Red-tail usually shows. I had to wait for traffic so I could turn around, and finally caught up with the bird well enough to get binocs on it in the distance. I never saw the bird soar, or do anything other than steady flap and glide. This is my 1st local Rough-leg, though we have some suitable habitat in the area. When I got home I had 4 species of finch perched in a tree in the yard, with several Purples, and a Pine Siskin with a few House Finches and American Goldfinches around as usual. Good Birding!!
