12-06-08 J. Travis Price Park Robertson Co. Birder Tony Lance, who is not on tn-bird, sent a report to me which I thought tn-birders would want to know about. There are (as of today) 8 Snow Geese and 3 Ross's Geese at the J. Travis Park pond in Springfield, TN. Evidently, he first saw them on Dec. 4. There are also a few all-white geese on the same pond. He also had a flock of 25+ horned larks in a neighboring field where winter wheat was just beginning to sprout. Here are the directions Tony sent me: With regard to directions, Springfield is accessible via I-65 and I-24. Also, both Hwy 41 (Dickerson Rd) and Hwy 431 (Whites Creek Pike) go from Nashville to Springfield, eventually becoming Memorial Blvd. Drivers coming to Springfield using either interstate will likely, though not necessarily, enter the town via Hwy 49 (which becomes 5th Ave). At the intersection of Hwy 49 & Hwy 431/41 (also the intersection of Memorial Blvd & 5th Ave) go north on Hwy 431/41. You'll go past Sulphur Fork Creek, and just past the fairgrounds (on your right) you'll see an obvious blue sign for J. Travis Price Park at Blackwood Rd. Go right and the entrance to the park is less than a mile on the left. The small lake with the birds is near the entrance and parking lot.
