Richland Creek Greenway Nashville-Davidson Co TN April 26, 2013 A few nice surprises showed up this morning on Richland Creek Greenway. A singing SWAINSON'S THRUSH greeted us just outside the parking area. It popped up into the open before flying off. Although the most numerous warbler species was ( it has been for the past several days in my yard as well) PALM WARBLERS, two NASHVILLE WARBLERS were present. Their song tipped me off, but the second one came out into the open on an exposed branch. A YELLOW WARBLER sang and then hopped out long enough for a quick view before it flew off. Perhaps the highlights were a loudly chipping BLUE GROSBEAK that cooperated very nicely and a first year male ORCHARD ORIOLE. Below is a run down on the 32 species observed: Canada Goose 1 Great Blue Heron 2 Killdeer 4 Mourning Dove 3 Chimney Swift 4 Red-bellied Woodpecker 2 Downy Woodpecker 2 Great Crested Flycatcher 2 White-eyed Vireo 1 Red-eyed Vireo 1 Blue Jay 4 Carolina Chickadee 2 Tufted Titmouse 2 Carolina Wren 3 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 2 Swainson's Thrush 1 American Robin 15 Northern Mockingbird 4 Brown Thrasher 1 European Starling 16 Tennessee Warbler 1 Nashville Warbler 2 Yellow Warbler 1 Palm Warbler 6 Chipping Sparrow 1 White-throated Sparrow 2 Northern Cardinal 10 Blue Grosbeak 1 Indigo Bunting 5 Red-winged Blackbird 1 Brown-headed Cowbird 3 Orchard Oriole 1 first year male Kevin Bowden Nashville, TN
