The Hiwassee CBC was held on January 2.  Sixteen observers found 88
species.  Waterfowl were difficult to find and Sandhill Crane numbers
were lower than usual.  Cold clear day, Low 25, high 48 degrees.

Highlights included:

24 White Pelicans - This species has been seen in this area off and on
but this is the first time ever on CBC.

6 Great Egret - Now a regular on this CBC

2 Orange-crowned Warbler

1 House Wren

2 Vesper Sparrow

22 Least Sandpiper

11 Dunlin

2480 Sandhill Crane - Usually average between 6000 and 10000 on CBC, not
sure if hunting around refuge affected numbers, or warm early winter
temperatures up north slowed their migration south?

15 Bald Eagle

Thanks to everyone who helped with this count!
