Today 11 "beginners" showed up at the Greenway in Kingsport for a 2 hour bird
walk. Before they arrived, I had a first of the season Black-and-white
Warbler. During the walk, we began with a Screech Owl sunning in the entrance
of
its nest hole. Subsequently, we added Yellow-crowned Night-heron at its nest,
Yellow-rumped Warblers (4), Wood Ducks (2 pair), Tree Swallows (3), Eastern
Bluebirds (one pair at a nest box), Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker,
American Robin (several), Carolina Chickadee (several), Carolina Wren (3),
Turfted Titmouse (several), Eastern Towhee (heard only), Northern Cardinal
(several), White-throated Sparrow (4), Brown-headed Cowbird (one pair), Blue
Jay
(2), Northern Mockingbird (2), Field Sparrow (1), Red-tailed Hawk (2), Black
Vulture (1), Turkey Vulture (2), American Goldfinch (2) and great looks at a
male
Ruby-crowned Kinglet displaying its crown in the sun.
