27-28 Apr 2008 Reelfoot Lake area, Lake & Obion Cos. After the TOS meeting in Memphis, I went up to Reelfoot. From mid-morning on Sunday through noon Monday I had 138 species, not bad for just over 24 hours of leisurely birding. Highlights: ducks: 8 species, the best being Red-br. Merganser. Com. Loon - 1 Am. White Pelican - 1 Cattle Egret - 1 Mississippi Kite - 1, Monday at Walnut Log N. Harrier - 1, Sunday, getting late. Peregrine Falcon - 1, levee south of Tiptonville shorebirds: 11 species, best being Blk-nk. Stilts & Long-billed Dowitchers. Caspian Tern - 2 Forster's Tern - 12+ Barred Owl - 8+ (no nighttime birding done) Red-headed Woodpecker - lots E. Wood-pewee - 5+ Acadian Flycatcher - 1 E. Kingbird - lots Loggerhead Shrike - 2 Warbling Vireo - 5+ Fish Crow - 12+ Bank Swallow - 4+ Marsh Wren - 1 Veery - 1 Gray-ch. Thrush - 1 Swainson's Thrush - 10+ Hermit Thrush - 1, getting late. Am. Pipit - 12+ warblers: 20 species Golden-wg. - 1 Tennessee - 15+ Nashville - 1 N. Parula - lots Yellow - 1 Chestnut-sd. - 1 Magnolia - 2 Yellow-rumped - lots Blk-thr. Green - 2 Yellow-thr. - 5+ Bay-br. - 1 Blackpoll - 1 Am. Redstart - 3 Prothonotary - lots Swainson's - 2 N. Waterthrush - 10+ Kentucky - 15+ Com. Yellowthroat - several Hooded - 1 Yellow-br. Chat - 4 both tanagers & both orioles Lincoln's Sparrow - 2 Rose-br.
