Today my dad and I made a quick stop by Chickamauga Dam to see if the Surf Scoter was still present. It was easily seen, in fact I found it easily with a quick scan of the binoculars and got great scope views. The only other birds of note while there were several Common Goldeneyes and 8 Bufflehead. Also looking east towards Booker T. Washington I saw a loon that looked like a Pacific but it was so far off it was hard to tell. I have a photo of it on my flickr and would appreciate any comments on the ID.Afterwards we made a quick run by Booker T. Washington State Park where after a few minutes of scanning I found the 2 Red-throated Loons. They were side-by-side to start with but later spread out. They were extremely far away, I couldn't even see them with binoculars but I could get pretty good views through the scope at 60x! The only other birds of note were 30+ Common Goldeneye, 40+ Horned Grebe, and 25+ Common Loon. Here is the link to the photos: http://flickr.com/photos/30572572@N04/ Good Birding!
