Feb. 23, 2011 Robco Lake Shelby Co. TN Landfill - Tunica, Co. MS Spent the morning with Gail King and we finally found the Red-necked Grebe' sleeping among the hordes of ducks and Ring-billed Gulls. I was able to get better views in the afternoon but still a difficult find when sleeping on the other side of the lake. The extensive wing molt should keep this fine bird around for a few more days but every once and awhile it tests the new flight feathers with some heavy wing flapping. We made a quick trip 20 miles south and searched around the landfill in Tunica Co. There are less than a third of the gulls there now than even last weekend, evidently most have headed north. We could only find 2 immature Herrings and a single THAYER'S Gull among the few thousand Ring-bills. I later saw 7 Western Meadowlarks off of Buck Island Road and some of the young birds were practicing and singing partial songs. Jeff R.
