The Reddish Egret was still present this afternoon at Rankin Bottoms.
Mike Nelson and I birded from 3:45-6:00 p.m. and had long, good views
of the bird. Mike Todd first pointed out the bird to us when we
arrived, in decent binocular view and good scope view from the
pull-off before reaching the coal tipple. Shortly afterward, it flew
off and we lost sight of it for an hour. We located it again further
north, easily visible with binoculars from the shore looking east. It
seems to like to stay near, but not with, a group of Great Egrets.
With patience, we did eventually see it raise its wings and "dance" as
it searched for food. It's a relatively cooperative bird.

At the pull-off, 2 Short-billed Dowitchers were visible by scope. We
had great views of three Osprey circling overhead at once and of
Common Yellowthroat, which we found along the gravel road north of the
tipple. Mike also heard a Chat, but we couldn't get any views of it.
