Greene County: Greeneville, Tusculum, Mosheim, Mohawk, etc. 

Intermittent birding opportunities the last two and a half weeks produced the 
following-- 

Gadwall (9-25, Gravel Woods Rd., Dec. 4 ,10) 
American Wigeon (2-8, Gravel Woods Rd. and Guinn Dr., Dec. 10, 17) 
American Black Duck (1, Gravel Woods Rd., Dec. 10) 
Northern Shoveler (15, Mohawk, Dec. 10) 
Northern Pintail (9-17, Gravel Woods Rd., Dec. 4, 10) 
Green-winged Teal (1-30, Gravel Woods Rd. and Kinser Park, Dec. 4, 10, 17) 
Ring-necked Duck (2-8, Gravel Woods Rd. and Guinn Dr., Dec. 4 ,10) 
Hooded Merganser (2-6, Gravel Woods Rd. and Glenfield Trl., Dec. 4, 17) 
Cooper's Hawk (1, Dec. 10) 
Red-tailed Hawk (1 adult dark-morph, Green Rd., Dec. 10) [first county record 
since Feb. 14, 2004] 
American Coot (1, Guinn Dr., Dec. 17) 
Ring-billed Gull (167, Dec. 10) [sporadic here, generally found in open fields 
or urban parking areas] 
Eurasian Collared-Dove (1, Mosheim, Dec. 4) [90th consecutive month at this 
site] 
Red-headed Woodpecker (1-2, three sites, Dec. 4, 10, 17) 
Horned Lark (1, Baughard Hill Rd., Dec. 10) 
Brown-headed Nuthatch (1, Kinser Park, Dec. 17) 
Brown Creeper (1-2, three sites, Dec. 5, 14, 17-18) 
Winter Wren (1-2, two sites, Dec. 17-18) 
Hermit Thrush (9, Kinser Park, Dec. 17) 
Savannah Sparrow (5, Dec. 17) 
Rusty Blackbird (12-24, Gravel Woods Rd. and Green Rd., Dec. 4, 10) 
Purple Finch (1, Kinser Park, Dec. 17) 

The Brown-headed Nuthatch was present in the pines at the water slide in Kinser 
Park, in approximately the same location where two were present on Dec. 18, 
2010.
