Rankin Bottoms, Douglas Lake, Cocke County, TN Don Holt, Rack Cross, Michael Sledjeski and I birded Rankin Bottoms from about 4:30 PM until dark. We scoped from the road for an hour or so and then worked the area by canoe and kayak. The road was passible by ordinary cars. It may not be so later in the week if we get a lot of rain. Birds seen: Double-crested Cormorant - about 50 Great Blue Heron - 20 Great Egret - 60 Little Blue Heron - 1 Green Heron - 12 Black-crowned Night Heron - 25 Canada Goose - 250+ Wood Duck - 8 Mallard - 50 Turkey Vulture - 10 Osprey - 4 Merlin - Don and Rack had one fly over them at close range.
