Was out on Douglas Lake today on a Jon boat in the Rankin Bottoms area (Cocke
County). Lots of wading bird activity today, with high numbers of Great
Egrets, Great Blue Herons, Black-crowned Night Herons, and Green Herons. Also,
4 WHITE IBIS juveniles were located about 1/4 mile up the Nolichucky River from
the point where the two rivers meet. Some other birds of interest include:

 Osprey - several
 Wood Duck - many
 Mallard - many
 Canada Goose - Many
 Double-crested Cormorant - Many
 Belted Kingfisher - Many
 Killdeer - many
PEEP sandpiper (probably semi-palmated, not sure) - 1
 Pectoral Sandpiper - 2-3
 Solitary Sandpiper - 2-3
 Possible White-rumped Sandpiper - 2

Bad lighting conditions made ID on the shorebirds very difficult. Most
shorebird activity was on extensive mudflat system in the wetlands area at the
mouth of the Nolichucky (left side, if facing upstream). There are some houses
on the hill with grass lawns going all the way down to the water line, and just
off shore of this is a large mudflat.

 Beautiful day on the lake!
