Ramsey Cascades Trail
Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Sevier County
Tuesday, April 11, 2006

Hi folks,

Sorry I didn't have a chance to post this before now.

Yesterday we had a great hike to Ramsey Cascades, and found a few
birds along the way.

The highlight for me was a singing Winter Wren near the top.

Other birds included:

Canada Geese at a few spots on the Little River
Wild Turkey at a few spots along the roads through the park
Black and Turkey Vultures overhead during the day, including a Turkey
Vulture circling near falls.
Broad-winged Hawk
Mourning Dove
Rock Pigeon - in Gatlinburg
Belted Kingfisher on the Little Pigeon River
Red-bellied, Downy, Hairy and Pileated Woodpeckers
Blue-headed, and Red-eyed Vireos
BLue Jay
American Crow
Tree Swallow
Barn Swallow
Carolina Chickadee (never could find a Black-capped)
Tufted Titmouse
Red-breasted Nuthatch - at least 3 different individuals
Carolina Wren
Winter Wren (First of season at elevation and singing)
Golden-crowned Kinglet (First of season singing and at elevation)
American Robin on the drive in
European Starling - in Gatlinburg, of course!
Northern Parula
Black-throated Blue Warbler - (First of Season)
Black-throated Green Warbler
Yellow-throated Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
Louisiana Waterthrush
Eastern Towhee
Dark-eyed Junco (first ones I've heard singing)
Northern Cardinal
American GOldfinch
House Sparrow (Where else? Gatlinburg!)
