Ramsey Cascades Trail Great Smoky Mountains National Park Sevier County Tuesday, April 11, 2006 Hi folks, Sorry I didn't have a chance to post this before now. Yesterday we had a great hike to Ramsey Cascades, and found a few birds along the way. The highlight for me was a singing Winter Wren near the top. Other birds included: Canada Geese at a few spots on the Little River Wild Turkey at a few spots along the roads through the park Black and Turkey Vultures overhead during the day, including a Turkey Vulture circling near falls. Broad-winged Hawk Mourning Dove Rock Pigeon - in Gatlinburg Belted Kingfisher on the Little Pigeon River Red-bellied, Downy, Hairy and Pileated Woodpeckers Blue-headed, and Red-eyed Vireos BLue Jay American Crow Tree Swallow Barn Swallow Carolina Chickadee (never could find a Black-capped) Tufted Titmouse Red-breasted Nuthatch - at least 3 different individuals Carolina Wren Winter Wren (First of season at elevation and singing) Golden-crowned Kinglet (First of season singing and at elevation) American Robin on the drive in European Starling - in Gatlinburg, of course! Northern Parula Black-throated Blue Warbler - (First of Season) Black-throated Green Warbler Yellow-throated Warbler Black-and-white Warbler Louisiana Waterthrush Eastern Towhee Dark-eyed Junco (first ones I've heard singing) Northern Cardinal American GOldfinch House Sparrow (Where else?
