Radnor Lake State Natural Area Davidson Co., TN 2014 Apr. 10 My early morning walk this Thursday at Radnor Lake from the west parking lot to Long Bridge and back proved to be less birdy than yesterday, with only about 3/4ths the number of species found and no other birders seen. Nevertheless, I was pleased to find a HORNED GREBE coming into breeding plumage on the west end of the lake although the REDHEAD from yesterday was missing. At Long Bridge also in the MIA category was the WINTER WREN that I saw yesterday, but instead, I got extended good looks at eye level of a slightly early OVENBIRD. On the way back to the west parkinglot I stopped to try to visually find a singing NORTHERN PARULA near the top of a very tall tree (no luck). While searching for it, another
bird flew into that area and turn out to be my first of the year GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER. Only 5 species of warblers this morning, the above two plus 1 BLACK-AND-WHITE, 3 YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERs, and a plethora of YELLOW-RUMPEDs.
