Radnor Lake State Natural Area
Davidson Co.
Nashville, TN
Friday 2009 Oct. 16
7:15-9:30 am
cool and cloudy

Friday at Radnor Lake the birds fit the weather. Although there were
plenty of neotropical migrants still coming through, the door opened
substantially for wintering birds as well. I only had 6 warbler species
but in addition to nearly 3 dozen YELLOW-RUMPEDs, there were still very
good numbers of TENNESSEE, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, and BAY-BREASTED
WARBLERs. Single birds included BLUE-HEADED VIREO, ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAK, SUMMER and SCARLET TANAGER.

I got my first of the season BROWN CREEPER and RUDDY DUCKs. Other
wintering birds included YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, WHITE-THROATED
SPARROW and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET. I ran into Michael Bernard,
former Nashville birder now living in Charleston and here for
the weekend. He told me he had a WINTER WREN near the dam.

Birds of interest include:

Ruddy Duck 5
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 2
Hairy Woodpecker 3
