clear and cool, beautiful
07:00-10:00 am

This morning it was fall weather the way it is supposed to be.
It was just a bit crisp at the start of my walk with Phillip
Casteel but even at 10 am, it was still reasonably cool.
Walking from the west parking lot to Long Bridge and back, the
birds certainly cooperated with very nice numbers of warblers
and other migrants. RED-EYED VIREOs seemed to be ubiquitous,
and we found 13 warbler species plus plenty of SWAINSON'S
THRUSHes. We also encountered 2 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERs.
At one point quiet descended on the forest and after a moment
we spotted the reason for the silence, an immature BROAD-WINGED
HAWK was perched and eating breakfast. Perhaps the birds were
observing a moment of silence for a dead comrade.

I am sure the NTOS walkers will have additional birds to
report.

Birds of interest included:

Double-crested Cormorant 1 flyover
Pied-billed Grebe 3
Broad-winged Hawk 1
Eastern Wood-Pewee 8
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher 2
Swainson's Thrush 8
Cedar Waxwing 4
Red-eyed Vireo 16+

WARBLERS:
Blue-winged 1
Golden-winged 4
Tennessee 12+
Northern Parula 3
Chestnut-sided 9
Magnolia 10
Black-throated Green 1
Black-and-white 9
American Redstart 12
Worm-eating 2
Common Yellowthroat 3
Wilson's 1
Canada 4
