Radnor Lake State Natural Area
Davidson Co., TN
2015 Sept. 22

With a nice chill in the air I decided to stop this Tuesday morning at
Radnor Lake. I'd gotten out of my car and was checking the trees around
the west parking lot for warblers when I saw a robust, crow sized bird
glide toward me in the sky. A quick look with my binocular showed it
to be a totally unexpected PEREGRINE FALCON. As it past me, it began
powerful wing beats and accelerated above the trees toward the lake
and out of sight.

At the dam I had the best mixed warbler flock of the day, with nine
species seen, the best of which was a male WILSON'S WARBLER. The flock
was dominated by MAGNOLIAs. Just before I reached Long Bridge on my
walk, I found a silent VEERY to go with a couple chipping
SWAINSON'S THRUSHes.
