Radnor Lake State Natural Area Davidson Co. Nashville, TN 2010 Oct. 27 7:30-9 am clearing, cool A Wednesday morning walk at Radnor Lake clearly show the changing of the season. After heavy rains of the past several days, many of the trees have lost almost all their leaves, making it much easier to spot birds. However, most neotropical migrants have already passed us by. The best area was the old Ranger house near the spillway and dam, which produce WINTER and HOUSE WRENs in addition to the ever present CAROLINAs. Also there were 2 E. PHOEBEs. My best bird of the morning was a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK that flew across the opening at the spillway. It has been a couple years since I've seen one in Tennessee. I tried hard to find a warbler besides the numerous YELLOW-RUMPEDs but failed. Ducks included AM WIGEON, GADWALL, and WOOD, while AM COOTs were also well represented but I did not walk all the way around the lake to check the east end.
