Radnor Lake Davidson County Nashville, TN The cold front of yesterday left this morning crisp and clear, an obvious invitation to bird Radnor Lake. The morning did not disappoint. I birded my usual route from the west parking lot to Long Bridge and back with Phillip Casteel from 7 am to 9:30 am. Most numerous species was YELLOW RUMPED WARBLER with 75+ birds. Several times I had a half dozen or more in my 10x42 binocular field of view. Somewhat to my surprise MAGNOLIA was not the second most numerous warbler, rather it was TENNESSEE with BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERs also being quite numerous. Six woodpecker species were seen, the only one missing was RED-HEADED, the latter being unusual at Radnor Lake. Warblers: Tennessee 25+ Orange-crowned 2 Nashville 1 Magnolia 5 Yellow-rumped 75+ Black-throated Green 15+ Bay-breasted 1 Am. Redstart 1 (im. male) Common Yellowthroat Other birds of interest, migrants and incoming wintering birds: Yellow-bellied Sapsucker 3 Easter Wood-Pewee 1 Eastern Phoebe heard Brown Creeper 1 House Wren 1 Winter Wren 2 heard Golden-crowned Kinglet 1 Blue-headed Vireo 1 Philadelphia Vireo 1 Red-eyed Vireo 1 White-throated Sparrow 5 When I left him, Phillip had joined up with the Wednesday NTOS group and he was still hard at work.
