Out in advance of the Wednesday Nashville TOS group's walk,
I birded to Long Bridge and back to the West Parking lot.
I probably started my walk a bit too soon, as once I got
past the dam, the sun was not hitting the trees and the
birds were in dribbles and drabs as opposed to my walk
along the road to the dam. Walking back from Long Bridge
with the sun up higher produced more birds. Number of
warbler species was down but bird numbers were still high.
AM REDSTART beat out MAGNOLIA for the most numerous on
my walk. In all I found 10 warbler species, including lone
GOLDEN-WINGED (a nice male) and BLACKBURNIAN WARBLERs.
A single YELLOW-THROATED VIREO was singing for some time.
The WOOD DUCK numbers seem to grow with over 30 birds
on the lake and there were large flocks of CHIMNEY
SWIFTS and CEDAR WAXWINGs. BLUE JAYs were also on the
move. One flycatcher with a yellow throat and breast
got away before I could make a definitive ID. I am
sure that the NTOS group will post additional good
finds.
