I celebrated my daughter's birthday by taking my first September
walk at Radnor Lake this morning, and it was an enjoyable morning.
I found 3 mixed flocks of warblers as I walked from the West Parking
Lot to Long Bridge and back. The first and largest was just after
the deck along the Lake Trail. I had 10 different species including
BLACKBURNIAN, a singing CANADA, plus N. PARULA, and CHESTNUT-SIDED
WARBLERS. The second flock was just before Long Bridge, where
the best birds were a WILSON'S WARBLER, VEERY, and YELLOW-BILLED
CUCKOO. The last flock was found just before I reached the parking
lot. It was particularly enjoyable, as I had my first GOLDEN-WINGED
WARBLER for the year as well as a BLUE-WINGED WARBLER and another
VEERY. Most numerous were MAGNOLIA WARBLERs with a dozen or more
seen, and not far behind were various plumaged AM. REDSTARTs.
I finished with 14 different warbler species, a nice morning for
this early in September.
