cool, clear

After devoting the weekend to other concerns, I headed to
Radnor Lake this Monday morning. I found primarily the same
species that have been seen there the past several days.
I did not find either of Michael Bernard's hybrids from
his posting of yesterday. Instead, near the Ranger's
residence not far from the dam, I enjoyed watching an otter
work on a fish breakfast. It actually came out of the water
with its catch and was hiding in the underbrush. Another event
slightly out of the ordinary occurred when I heard an agitated
OVENBIRD giving its call note repeatedly. I never found out
what its problem was, but over the course of 2-3 minutes,
5 other species of warblers showed up in response to its alarm!
Best bird of the day was a nice YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER,
giving its "tuwee" call. I neither saw or heard a RED-BREASTED
GROSBEAK. However, I did find 12 species of warblers, although
none that I had not seen before this fall migration.

Birds of interest include:

Chimney Swift 45+
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher 1
Blue-gray Gnatchatcher 2
Swainson's Thrush 8
Gray-cheeked Thrush 1
Gray Catbird 2
Philadelphia Vireo 3
Scarlet Tanager 1
Summer Tanager 1

Warblers:
Blue-winged 1
Tennessee 3
N. Parula 3
Chestnut-sided 6
Magnolia 13
Black-throated Green 2
Black-and-white 6
Am. Redstart 11 (1 adult male)
Ovenbird 2
Common Yellowthroat 1
Kentucky 1
Wilson's 1
