This morning Kevin Bowden, Danny Shelton and myself met at Radnor for a walk,
greeted with gorgeous sunshine and eventually warm winds. Early on we had a few
birds on Otter Creek Road, including a Northern Parula, Louisiana Waterthrush
and a Black-throated Green Warbler.
A completely silent Prothonotary Warbler (FOS) flew in and landed about 15 feet
from us at eye level on the corner of the dam walkway and Otter Creek, just as
Frank Fekel met up with us. Danny spotted a Blue-headed Vireo (FOS), which
stayed out in the open and gave us some wonderful looks. A Green Heron (FOS)
was then seen, flying across the lake, where it landed and gave us further
looks. In behind the old ranger house a Blue-winged Warbler was heard first and
then we were able to locate the bird. Another first of season.
All in all, a really solid start for early-mid April.
