Davidson Co., TN
2018 Sep. 10

The major cold front having gone through middle TN
yesterday I went to Radnor Lake this Monday morning to
see what warblers it might have brought. I soon ran
into Jan Shaw and photographer Kathy Malone, and we
spent much of our time at the dam area and even more
time at Long Bridge. I finished with 50 species for the
morning. We ran into at least 3 mixed warbler flocks,
the best one being at Long Bridge, where we remained
for well over 60 minutes. On the way back to the west
parking lot, we spotted an immature BALD EAGLE on the
snag in the water where the cormorants usually dry out.
I saw 14 species of warblers for the morning including
a brief glimpse at my first GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER for
the year, a female at eye level at Long Bridge. Just
before the bridge we watched 2 OVENBIRDs battle it out
in mid-air. A female HOODED WARBLER extensively chipped
and posed several times. Unfortunately, the GOLDEN-WINGEd
WARBLER stayed visible for just a few seconds, and we were
unable to refind it for Jan and Kathy.

Birds of interest included

Bald Eagle, immature 1
Warbling Vireo 1
Veery 1
Swainson's Thrush 1
Baltimore Oriole 2

Ovenbird 2
Louisiana Waterthrush 1
