Radnor Lake State Natural Area Davidson Co. Nashville, TN Friday 2007 Oct. 12 07:15-09:30am clear, very chilly I enticed Jan Shaw to come for a walk in the cold crisp air at Radnor Lake this Friday morning. However, we both ended up trying to stay in the sunshine as much as possible, so we only went from the west parking lot to the deck along the lake trail and back rather than to long bridge. We got 9 species of warblers, with BLACK THROATED GREENs rebounding today, having numbers similar to those of MAGNOLIAs and so reaching second place. Four NASHVILLE WARBLERs were also nice to see. There was a large movement of about 10 ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKs near the dam, and later ranger Brian Becker told us he had several more at the east end of the lake. We ended up with 3 swallow species, with a group of 12+ TREEs coming in along with 5 N. ROUGH-WINGED, and a single BARN. Perhaps a dozen CHIMNEY SWIFTs also swarmed over the lake. Winter visitors included RUBY CROWNED KINGLET, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, and our first WINTER WREN of the season. Despite the cold, we certainly enjoyed the morning. -- Frank Fekel Tennessee State University Center of Excellence in Information Systems 3500 John A.
