Radnor Lake State Natural Area
Davidson Co., TN
2015 April 30
partly cloudy and cool

I stopped at Radnor Lake this Thursday morning before going to work,
and the Lake Trail did not disappoint. I finished with 53 species
and had a male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK eating a bit of dirt on the
ground near the dam just 10 yards in front of me. YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLERs still dominate the Lake Trail with 65+ birds found but
a huge flight of PALM WARBLERs was also around, conservatively
estimated at 25+ birds. However, the best warblers found this
morning were first, a brief look at a male BLACK-THROATED BLUE
WARBLER just before Cane Bridge, which after flying off sang once,
and a singing SWAINSON'S WARBLER just past bench 13 and just
before the currently non-existent observation deck. It was singing
extensively in the trees near the water's edge. Both species are
relatively rare in the county.
