My wife and I hiked the Ganier Ridge trail to the lake trail and around the
lake back to the east parking lot this afternoon. It was breezy, but quite
birdy at times. I tallied 14 species of warbler. I had a flock on a ridge top
with at least 2 Tennessee's, 1 Cerulean, 1 Blackburnian (seen and heard), 2
Black-throated Green, at least one Yellow Palm Warbler, a couple male Scarlet
Tanagers, and a female rose-breasted grosbeak. I had 5 western Palm Warblers
and 2 Yellow Palms. I suspect I walked past a lot more of them! I spotted a
new species of Swift for my Radnor Lake list as well, with it being a Taylor
Swift.

If you scrolled down this far (thanks), I did a 60 mile bike ride through
mostly Rutherford Co. this morning. I had 57 species of bird. I somehow
managed to keep a decent tally in my head on what I saw/heard. Most numbers
are conservative estimates (esp the chipping and field sparrow, and
gnatcatchers). Saw a Blue Grosbeak perched up singing while I was climbing a
big hill and heard a couple more chipping and singing. I stopped to look at my
map at one point and heard the Summer Tanager calling. Not a bad tally for a
bike ride!
