September 9th, 2018

Daniel Redwine, David Kinsinger and myself had good numbers and diversity
of shorebirds at the Duck River Unit TNWR in Humphreys County  (mouth of
the Duck River via kayak) this afternoon.

Killdeer 1
RUDDY TURNSTONE 15
Stilt Sandpiper 12
SANDERLING 10
Least Sandpiper 14
Pectoral Sandpiper 3
Semipalmated Sandpiper 35
WESTERN SANDPIPER 20
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER 2
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE 1
Greater Yellowlegs 4
Lesser Yellowlegs 34

We also had many flocks flying over and setting further up the Duck that
we didn't identify, probably mostly peeps.

Two Peregrine Falcons were present when we got there, harassing a
Semipalmated Sandpiper that finally came over to shore and sheltered under
our feet, but not until it had taken a hit.

At dusk, a flock of 15 Green Herons was seen lifting off and heading
South out of the DRU, and  30 minutes South in downtown Lobelville just
now, flocks of Green Herons can be heard passing over. David and I
conservatively counted 28 by ear as I'm writing this up.

  Good birding! RWS, Centerville TN
