Here at my home in Charlotte Park, West Nashville, Davidson County, I just had a very brightly colored male goldfinch drop down to drink from the ant trap above my hummingbird feeder. He had more yellow than most for this time of year. He drank for sooooo long that I cannot help but wonder if he is a migrant that dropped down in search of water after maybe having flown for an extended time. After he drank so much, he flew into a nearby bush to "rest." I have not seen him partake of any food although the feeders are full. I haven't seen a hummingbird since Thursday a week ago, so guess my migrants have all passed through. For the week before that Thursday, I had a battalion of them fighting over the feeder and all around the yard. I intend to keep the feeder stocked just in case I have some nice little winter wanderer drop by looking for some sugar water. Happy birding.
