Greetings,

At about 5:30 PM, a male purple finch landed on my deck in the Charlotte
Park section of West Nashville. Nothing could deter it from hungrily
"vacuuming" the bird seed from my deck. My two poodles were on the deck when
it
landed, but it paid practically no attention when I opened the door to let
them in,
and they walked only two feet from it as they passed by. That is one hungry
bird. Wonder if it has been flying all day in migration? It did drop down
here from up above somewhere. Of course, it may have flown in last night and
slept all day to fly again tonight. I don't know how they work their
"schedules" during migration. It ate for about 15 minutes, then got water and
flew
out of the yard toward the river. I believe this is the earliest I have
ever had one here, and can't check. That HASMAT team that "cleaned" my house
after my illness took my bird list off the bulletin board and either packed it
or flung it to the dumpster. I'm still unpacked and really "lost" without
all my "stuff" handy. Haven't had the strength to handle those HUGE boxes
they
used and get unpacked yet.

Good wishes and happy birding,

Dee Thompson
Nashville, TN
