Harold Howell and I birded the short loop trail at Cove Lake State Park this morning (Campbell County, TN) Migrants are certainly starting to come in this week. I have listened diligently every morning for a few minutes for the Prothonotary Warbler, and this morning heard one near the overlook platform. Other new arrivals today for Cove were: White-eyed Vireo Yellow-throated Vireo Wood Thrush- only 1 seen. None singing yet. Red-eyed Vireo for Cove (though I had 2 early ones in Royal Blue on 4-1-03 Northern Parula Hooded Warbler Chimney Swift A lone Purple Martin Yellow-Rumped WA are still around of course and mixing their song in with the locals. Black and White Warbler was seen also. Swallows are numerous now, including Tree, Barn, Rough-winged and a few Cliff. Harold spotted a Red-bellied Woodpecker nest. 49 species were seen or heard in an hour.
