I went looking for the previously reported FEMALE SPOTTED TOWHEE this
morning at 7am on Tumbling Creek Rd. There was minimal bird activity at the
exact location where the bird was initially reported. However, moving about
0.1 miles West on the same road there was a mixed flock of birds
(Cardinals, red-bellied woodpeckers, sparrows, juncos, Eastern Towhees)
moving from the steep bank on the North side of the road to the stubby corn
field on the south side of the road. Within this group I saw what appeared
to be a MALE SPOTTED TOWHEE. It was hiding in the brush along the fence
line (South side) as opposed to the Eastern Towhees scratching in the
leaves (North side). I glimpsed this bird twice but was unable to obtain
any pictures. I continued looking until around 9:30 when bird activity
became minimal again.
I'm posting in case any one else might be able to search this area and
confirm this finding. If you see a dead possum on the fence and a dead car
in the field you're in the right place ;)
