After serendipitously running into Justin and Robin Nation at Snow Bunting
yesterday morning, 3-27, and seeing the Red-throated Loon, I hopped over
to the old hickory dam and nature trail area. Pleased to report obvious
PINE WARBLER activity along the trail, where they have been known to nest
for many years. I had at least 4 singing males. I also had a beautifully
singing Hermit Thrush and my first BLUE-HEADED VIREO of the season.
Hundreds of Bonaparte's Gulls were the only thing noteworthy at the dam.
Several birds are showing near complete breeding plumage. The nesting
Ospreys also teamed up with screams to dive and mob an adult Bald Eagle who
was too close for their comfort. That would have made for some great
photos, but alas, I had allowed my camera battery to die. 🔋😒
