All,
If anyone is interested, I've got a small gallery up from the pelagic portion
of the whirlwind trip to Southern California I just got back from. Chris Sloan
has already posted some great shots of the some of the same birds. It was a
truly tough day for photography, so I feel lucky to have gotten what I got.
Sure wish that Murphy's Petrel had given us a chance at a shot, but it was
great just to see it rocket down the side of the boat. Terry Hunefeld, SoCal
pelagic aficionado calls these west coast Pterodroma petrels 'winged rockets',
and that is a good description of one when it's got some serious wind to play
with.

I got 7 lifers on the boat, and wasn't one of the several that got sick on this
rocking day, so it was a great day indeed! I will post more photos later from
the rest of the trip, and the 3.5 days of target birding I did with 1600 miles
on my rental car in that span!

If interested, the gallery is here:
http://www.pbase.com/mctodd/ca_2010_deepwater_pelagic As usual, these photos
range from the Good, to the Bad, to the Ugly! But, it was an ugly day so I will
take it. Be sure the photos are at the 'original' size underneath the photo.

Good Birding!!
