March 7, 2014
2-3:30 p.m.

made my first trips to Cook and Seven Points today and at Seven Points was very
excited when I spotted a group of seven birds in the distance and more even
farther away that looked interesting. I ran around to the the back, lifted the
hatch and found that I had forgotten my scope, which is not a "good" scope, but
I would definitely have been able to get those nearest group. You can imagine.
I've not been able to get out since January.

about 4 p.m. I went by Old Hickory dam on my way home and saw the usual
suspects in large numbers: ring-billed gulls, coots, two Great Blue Herons, one
Double-crested cormorant, lots of mallards, and finally one horned grebe at the
parking lot just above the dam, and a Bald Eagle, sitting in the tree above
that big nest. Oh, and a red-shouldered hawk just after turning onto the road
that leads to Snow Bunting peninsula. I thought I saw another eagle in the
distance when I was looking at the eagle over the nest, but couldn't be sure.
