Just to add to Mike's report, and to the duck species, there were at least
15 Canvasbacks in a distant raft of ducks when I made it out to Cooks.

I met up with Frank Fekel and Phillip Casteel to see what waterbirds were
around on this cold, overcast morning. We started at the dam and worked
our way around to some of the usual hotspots - Seven Points, Cook, Hamilton
Creek, and Anderson Rd. Rec Areas. Scanning the lake from each area, it
was obvious that lots of birds were on the move. We had numerous flocks of
ducks and loons on the water, and many high-flying flocks. In addition to
the ducks, we had five flyover flocks of Sandhill Cranes over the course of
the morning. Lesser Scaup were most numerous, followed by about 80
Redheads at Anderson, and around 70 Red-breasted Mergansers from several
spots. We also had smaller numbers of Goldeneye, Ruddy Duck, Gadwall,
Mallard, Shoveler, and Bufflehead. The best bird was a Pacific Loon seen
from Cook around 8:30 - we scoped it for about 20 minutes due west of the
boat ramp. Graham Gerdeman caught up with us a bit later on, and he went
back over to Cook and re-found the loon around noon. Despite the cold and
drizzle, it was a fun morning to be out!
