While watching an immature Pacific Loon in basic plumage yesterday off
the Northeast side of Pace Point, Big Sandy Unit, TNWR, Henry County, I had
an adult Red-throated Loon pop up right beside it and stay for several
minutes.
This is the first time I've had 3 loons in the scope in April.
A second immature Pacific Loon was also seen off the West side of Pace,
and both birds were different individuals from the one seen recently at
Britton Ford.
According to Somershoe, a late Spring date for Pacific is late March,
though there are several June records for the state.
With 3 birds still present in April it will be interesting to see how
long they stick around.
