Phillip Casteel, Frank Fekel and I went to Pace Point and Britton Ford today. We saw Red-headed Woodpeckers, several adult and immature Bald Eagles, Sharp-shinned, Red-tailed and Red-shouldered Hawks. Waterfowl included Snow Goose, both white and blue forms, Common, Red-breasted and Hooded Mergansers, Golden-eyes at every stop as well as whistling fly-bys, Canvasback, Wigeon, Gadwall, Pintail, Shoveler, Bufflehead, Redhead, Black and Ruddy Duck. Also what appeared to be 3 very far off Common Loons. But the bird of the day, for me at least, was a lone Pacific Loon ( a lifer!) seen off of Rocky Point. The water was calm, the light good and the bird fairly close in, so we could see it well. Despite the cold, it was a good day.
