Hello, many of you may remember that I made announcement at the state meeting
regarding the effort to prevent approval of a large development (known as May
Town Center) for the Bell's Bend area of Nashville. For those of you not
familiar with the area, Bell's Bend is the area enclosed by a horseshoe shaped
bend in the Cumberland River. It contains two large parks, Bell's Bend and
Beamann, and also is the area where the Whooping Cranes wintered in Davidson
County this past winter. The proposed development would be located directly
across the road from Bell's Bend Park, and a couple miles (as a bird flies)
from the area where the Whooping Cranes were seen. This development includes a
large bridge across the river. NTOS is supporting the Bell's Bend/Scottsboro
Community Group in their efforts to both opposed the current development and to
create a development plan which will preserve the rural character of the area.
For further information, and to find
out how you can help, please visit www.bellsbend.org and click on "Get
involved". You call also visit www.nashville.gov to find information on
contacting the metro planning commision and metro council. If you are
interested I encourage you to do this in the near future, as the planning
commission will be voting on July 24th. I especially hope that those of you who
visited the Whooping Cranes from outside of nashville will take a moment to
contact the planning commission, as I think it is helpful for them to see that
there are other economic opportunities (ie tourism) for this area than large
scale development.

Thanks,

Amy Potter
