With all the discussion of ill Pine Siskins lately, I have some good news. A flock of 500 to 600 Pine Siskins were here (Elder Mtn.) all day yesterday in the rain. All appeared healthy with no signs of salmonella. Today, the normal numbers (300+) returned, and all appeared to be healthy. Hopefully they will migrate very soon. Nyger seed is very expensive. Today I birded Chester Frost SP in Hamilton county and saw the Cackling Geese, Brown-headed Nuthatches, Bald Eagle, Sharp-shinned Hawk and Cooper's Hawk, and about a dozen Tree Swallows. Bonaparte's Gulls and Common Loons were offshore. Blue-headed Vireo was singing in the yard at home today.
