Wanted to let everyone know about two nests we encountered of late.
First one was in Stewart County...at Stewart County High School. An Osprey has
built a nest and is now sitting atop the high power stadium lights there right
long Hwy 79. We noticed them building the next about 3 weeks ago and then this
week they were sitting. The high schoolers were on spring break this week so it
made it easy to observe without disturbing school.
Second one was discovered yesterday on a visit to Mission Hill at Shelby
Bottoms. At the corner of S 20th and Lillian right there by the entrance to
the parking lot... a Red-Shoulder's Hawk nest. They too are still sitting and
in our conversation with the neighbors (who have been observing them as they
built the nest and laid the eggs) they figure "chicks" should arrive sometime
around the 21st if all is successful.
We also discovered a "new" Eagle nest at Cross Creeks with sitting Eagles clear
in the back between the middle and southern most entrance and by chance
happened upon a Wood Duck nest on the ground pretty near the same location.
Spring has indeed sprung...bring on the Warblers!
