Who wants to see a goatsucker? We all do, of course. Well here is your
chance. On Saturday, 23 June 2018, the John W. Sellars (Lebanon) Chapter of
TOS has an evening of nightjar and owl hunting planned for southern Wilson
County and northern Rutherford County.
Anyone and everyone is invited. On Saturday evening, 23 June 2018, be in
the Dixon Merritt Nature Center parking lot at Cedars of Lebanon State Park
at 6:45 PM to participate. We will pile into as few vehicles as possible,
then hit the back roads just a few miles south of the park with Stephen
Zipperer leading the way.
Expect to hear Great Horned Owl, Barred Owl, Eastern Screech Owl,
Chuck-will’s Widow, Common Nighthawk, and Eastern Whippoorwill. The rumor
around town is Stephen guarantees we will hear or see all six of these
birds and if not, he will buy everyone's dinner. People are really saying
that. I'm not saying that but people are.
You will not need binoculars for most of the evening, but bring them
anyway. Also bring water and a snack if you wish. We will be out until
10:30 PM or so.
