I have totaled the numbers from the nest boxes around Chattanooga, and it was
another good year. There are 141 boxes that were monitored (in a previous post
I mentioned 176 boxes, but there were several sites that were not checked this
year) that were used mostly by Tree Swallows and Eastern Bluebirds. The number
of nests I report are the number of nesting attempts, as some pairs raised more
than 1 brood in the season, and the number of chicks represents the number of
chicks that successfully fledged.
Tree Swallows: 100 nests/343 chicks
Eastern Bluebird: 68 nests/217 chicks
Carolina Chickadee: 3 nests/12 chicks
Tufted Titmouse: 1 nest/4 chicks
Carolina Wren: 1 nest/0 chicks
House Sparrow: 1 nest/0 chicks
I banded 334 Tree Swallows this year, bringing the total number of swallows I
have banded since 2013 to 1,025. I have banded 85 adult females, 24 adult
males, and 916 chicks.
Many thanks to everyone who helped out this year!
